The Journal of Marine Engineering and Aquatic Sciences (JMEAS) is committed to maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of the scholarly record. When serious concerns arise regarding a submitted or published article, JMEAS may take appropriate editorial action, including withdrawal, retraction, removal, or replacement, depending on the nature and severity of the issue.
Article Withdrawal
Withdrawal generally applies to manuscripts or articles that have been accepted or made available online but have not yet been formally published as part of the permanent scholarly record.
An article may be withdrawn in exceptional circumstances, including serious errors, duplicate publication, plagiarism, ethical violations, fraudulent use of data, or other significant breaches of the journal’s publication policies.
Requests for withdrawal by authors must provide a clear justification and are subject to editorial approval. Withdrawal is not automatic upon an author’s request.
Article Retraction
A published article may be retracted when there is clear evidence that its findings or conclusions are unreliable or when serious research or publication misconduct has occurred. Grounds for retraction may include, but are not limited to:
- fabrication or falsification of data;
- plagiarism;
- duplicate or redundant publication;
- serious errors that invalidate the main findings or conclusions;
- unethical research practices;
- unauthorized use of data or material; or
- manipulation of authorship, peer review, or the publication process.
A retracted article will normally remain accessible as part of the scholarly record and will be clearly identified as retracted. A retraction notice explaining the reason for the retraction will be published and linked to the original article.
Article Removal
Removal of a published article from the journal’s online platform will be considered only in exceptional circumstances, particularly when continued public access could result in serious legal, privacy, confidentiality, or safety concerns.
Where an article is removed, its bibliographic information will normally be retained, together with a notice explaining why the full text is no longer available, to preserve the transparency of the scholarly record.
Article Replacement
In rare circumstances, an article containing serious errors may be replaced with a corrected version when retraction followed by republication is necessary to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record.
The replacement article will be clearly identified and linked to the relevant editorial notice so that readers can understand the reason for and history of the replacement.
Editorial Procedures
Decisions concerning withdrawal, retraction, removal, or replacement are made by the Editor-in-Chief and/or the responsible Editor, following appropriate assessment and, where necessary, consultation with the authors, reviewers, institutions, publisher, or other relevant parties.
JMEAS will handle such cases transparently and in accordance with the journal’s Publication Ethics and Research Misconduct policies and recognized international standards of scholarly publishing.
